Funeral Types and Costs

There are many choices of funeral you may wish to consider including:

We are knowledgeable in every aspect of these different styles and are happy to discuss these with you until you have decided on what is right for your loved one.

Help with funeral expenses

You may be entitled to a contribution towards the funeral expenses if the person making the funeral arrangements is receiving one of the following benefits: Income Support, Housing Benefit, Family Credit or Council Tax Benefit etc. For more information and to apply you need to contact the Department of Work and Pensions.

Whilst arranging the funeral we will keep you informed about costs and charges. The funeral account itself is divided into two separate charges:

Funeral Director Costs

  • Attending to necessary documentation
  • Collecting the deceased from the place of death
  • Private viewing in our chapel of rest
  • Care of the deceased throughout
  • The hearse, limousine and our bearers
  • Our office and administration costs
  • Coffin or casket

Disbursements

Costs incurred from 3rd parties

  • Cremation / burial fees
  • Funeral Officiant's fees for conducting the service
  • Obituary and thanks notices in the paper
  • Floral tributes
  • Printed service sheets
  • Wake or gathering after the funeral

Types of Funeral

A Direct Cremation is an unattended cremation. There is no funeral service and no attendees at the cremation.

If you so wish, you can arrange a memorial tribute or a wake at a time and date convenient to you.

This service includes:

  • Removal of the deceased to our Chapel of Rest during office hours within a 20 mile radius
  • Provision of a simple coffin
  • Cremation fee
  • Making all arrangements for Direct Cremation, including liaising with the Crematorium, Doctors and return of cremated remains (normally within two weeks)
  • Provision of an appropriate vehicle and necessary staff to convey the deceased
  • Cremation to take place at a local crematorium

£1450.00

A Simple Cremation at the local Crematorium. The cremation will take place at the Funeral Directors choosing. Ten mourners are able to attend but there is no funeral service at the Crematorium.

If you so wish, you can arrange a memorial tribute or a wake at a time and date convenient to you.

This service includes:

  • Removal of the deceased to our Chapel of Rest during office hours within a 20 mile radius
  • Provision of a simple coffin
  • Cremation fee
  • Making all arrangements for Direct Cremation, including liaising with the Crematorium, Doctors and return of cremated remains (normally within two weeks)
  • Provision of Hearse and necessary staff to convey the deceased
  • Funeral Directors attendance at the Crematorium

£1650.00

A Tailored Cremation will take place at the local Crematorium at a time and date of your choosing. It will include a funeral service at the Crematorium where mourners are permitted to attend for a full service.

This service includes:

  • Removal of the deceased to our Chapel of Rest during office hours within a 20 mile radius.
  • The Wells Coffin (Oak veneer)
  • Standard 30 min service fee at the Crematorium
  • Making all arrangements for Direct Cremation, including liaising with the Crematorium, Doctors and return of cremated remains (normally within two weeks)
  • Funeral Director to attend and conduct funeral service at the Crematorium
  • Organising and collecting of charitable donations in memory of the deceased
  • Provision of Hearse and necessary staff to convey the deceased
  • Organising optional extras, such as floral tributes, press notices and limousines (see full list here)
  • Viewing of the deceased during office hours

A Direct Burial is a simple burial. The time and date will be arranged by the Funeral Director at our local Church yard or Cemetery (If the deceased is not a local resident there will be an additional fee). There is no service and mourners are not in attendance.

If you so wish, you can arrange a memorial tribute or a wake at a time and date convenient to you.

This service includes:

  • Removal of the deceased to our Chapel of Rest during office hours within a 20 mile radius
  • Provision of a simple coffin
  • Bear Street Cemetery Internment fee for local residents (single grave)
  • Making all arrangements for Direct Burial, including liaising with the Local Council and Grave Diggers.
  • Provision of Hearse and necessary staff to convey the deceased

A Standard Burial will take place at either the local cemetery or Church Yard of the family's choosing (church permission permitting). The family are able to choose the date and time of the funeral and there is also a funeral service.

This service includes:

  • Removal of the deceased to our Chapel of Rest during office hours within a 20 mile radius
  • Provision of a simple coffin
  • Burial fee for local residents (single grave. A double can be arranged upon request)
  • Making all arrangements for Burial, including liasing with the Local Council or Church, arranging the Grave Diggers, liaising with the minister or other officiant and arranging optional extras (see full list here)
  • Provision of Hearse and necessary staff to convey the deceased
